Starting today, a new ordinance in Newton takes effect, impacting restaurants and retailers by restricting the sale and distribution of certain take-out containers, coffee cups, and other materials.

Full-service dine-in restaurants are now mandated to utilize washable dishware instead of single-use items.

Additionally, Newton restaurants can no longer automatically include single-use items like forks, spoons, knives, straws, chopsticks, stirrers, condiment packages, or napkins in take-out orders.

While our restaurants understand the necessity of these regulations in addressing environmental and health concerns related to plastic waste, adapting to these changes may pose challenges. Factors like supply chain issues or labor shortages can make compliance costly or difficult.

We ask for your patience as our local restaurants and businesses work to adjust to these new rules.
