As #juneteenth approaches, Louise Bruyn and her family gifted the City of Newton an incredibly moving handmade carving that she did to memorialize the names of the first slaves in Newton.
Louise is a true visionary force, founder of Green Newton and a regional leader in the peace movement having walked the 450 miles from Newton to Washington D.C. in 1977 to protest the War in Vietnam.
This week her daughter Suzanne and fellow artist Mary Spitzer, with Louise on Facetime, delivered the wooden carving to the Mayor’s Office.
On behalf of the residents of Newton, thank you.
