This weekend was Gun Violence Awareness Weekend, and the Newton Police Department started it off with a troubling annohncement.
On Thursday, police followed up on a report of a teenager in possession of a gun. They went to the boy’s home and found a handgun in addition to a 17-round magazine, a 31-round magazine and extensions.
“In addition, over 50 rounds of ammunition were recovered,” a NPD statement reads.
Police did not say the teen is considered dangerous and did not report any threats made.
“This weekend is National Gun Violence Awareness Weekend, it is a time to honor and remember victims and survivors of gun violence,” the statement continues.
