Five things to do in Newton this weekend

Easter weekend also marks the end of March and the start of rain season. But rain season never really left, did it?

The Easter Bunny may want to grab his raincoat and snow boots, as Sunday looks to be messy with a chance of snow at night.

There’s lots to do in Newton, however, with concerts, a Holi festival and even a waffle party, offering personal enrichment and fun for the family. This weekend it’s all about the colors of spring. And, again, waffles.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, March 29

From 7 to 10 p.m., Moldova Restaurant will host “What’s Goin’ On,” a night of live soul music, jazz and funk.

Saturday, March 30

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Scandinavian Cultural Center will host “Vaffeldagen: Waffle Day 2024” celebrating the Swedish tradition that dates back to the 17th century. Guests can enjoy a lunch and waffle or just a waffle, in addition to a standard Kaffestugan menu.

From 1 to 2 p.m., “Newton Holi, Festival of Colors” will be held at City Hall. Guests can wear white and be painted with bright colors like a canvas (protective eyewear is recommended).

At 7:30 p.m., the Allen Center will host “The Freitags Akademie: Newton Baroque Concerts” for an evening of chamber music by Johann Gottlieb Janitsch and his colleagues. Sarah Darling and Julia Glenn will play Violin, Alison Gangler will play the Oboe, Sarah Freiberg Ellison the Cello and Andrus Madsen the keyboard.

Sunday, March 31

At 10:30 a.m., the First Church in Chestnut Hill will have its annual Easter Sunday service.
