Spring is in full gear now, with lots of sun things to do all over Newton along with the thrill of gambling on the weather.

There’s likely going to be rain on Saturday and sunny skies Friday and Sunday, and a little weather variety fits nicely with Earth Day weekend.

Take in a play or a concert, learn to dance, go check out the Earth Day Festival. Spring has arrived in New England.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, April 19

From noon to 4 p.m., Historic Newton will host “Eager Engineers: Ingenious Inventions,” an engineering workshop for kids ages 5 to 15 who enjoy hands-on design challenges and crafts, at the Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds. Friday’s theme is about creativity and inventing something new.

At 8 p.m., Newton Theatre Company will present “Kindertransport,” a play written by Diane Samuels, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 96 Otis St., Newtonville. The play is about a 9-year-old girl sent to live in England by her German Jewish family in 1938 and how she comes to terms with her past decades later. Other showings will be Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Saturday, April 20

All day, the Boston Marriott Newton will host the Patriot Dance Festival, featuring competitions and even dance workshops for spectators.

At 7:30 p.m., the University Chorale of Boston College will perform a concert, “Draw the Circle Wide,” in the Trinity Chapel at Boston College Law School, 885 Centre St., with Rikka Pietilainen-Caffrey conducting. Musical selections are from England, Brazil, Germany, the United States, Canada and Korea.

Sunday, April 21

From noon to 4 p.m., Newton will host its 3rd annual Earth Day Festival at Newton North High School featuring live music, food and presentations by local businesses and nonprofits focused on how we can all help heal the planet and fight climate change. There will also be fun kids’ activities, including a petting zoo, face painting an Earth Day celebration with Little Beats and more.
